Wondering what carries over from one Diablo 4 season to the next or from the Eternal Realm to a seasonal character? Don't worry, Nephalem; we've got you covered with details on every piece of progression you won't have to redo.

This article explains what carries over from Diablo 4's Eternal Realm (non-seasonal) to seasons, so you can plan ahead before the release of a new season.

Diablo 4 Progression Carry Over To New Season

Diablo 4's first season starts in mid to late July 2023. The developers plan to release a new season every three months, introducing new mechanics, battle passes, and more. To enjoy the new content, players will have to create a new, seasonal character.

Not everything carries over. You won't keep your Paragon Points or even Skill Points earned with Renown. Players also won't keep their Potion Capacity increases. However, the developers did explain that some progress in Diablo 4 does carry over to new seasons.

The initial plan was for everything to reset every season of Diablo 4 and for seasonal characters to start completely fresh. This has changed, as Rod Fergusson explained during the first Campfire chat.

I think we started off in one place and we’re ending up in another place, which is interesting. I think we’re starting to feel with alt character that notion of, oh, the fog of war between characters doesn’t feel great, the Lilith Altars don’t necessarily feel great.

So what exactly does carry over from the Eternal Realm to seasonal characters in Diablo 4? Check out the list below to find out!

  • Altars of Lilith progression, including Stat bonuses, Renown claimed from each one, and Obol capacity from Altars.
  • Map exploration: Map discovery points already earned, as well as the Renown earned for these discoveries (5 each).

You will see Waypoints on your map, but you will have to travel to them with your seasonal character and unlock them to earn 20 Renown. Speaking of Renown, Blizzard will pre-load the Renown for Altars of Lilith (10 each) and map discovery onto your new seasonal characters.

You will still need to max out Renown in each region again for those tasty +4 Paragon Points per region. Further, players will have to unlock Potion Capacity and Skill Points from Renown once again. It is important to note, however, that if you have discovered the entire map and all Altars of Lilith, you should have enough Renown preloaded to reach level 3 in regions instantly with a new seasonal character.

To be abundantly clear: All other progress will need to be redone with a seasonal character, including purchasing Stash Tabs again, upgrading potions, finding items, and everything else!

In case you missed it, check out the Campfire chat in question below.

While not everyone will be happy with what progress carries over from one season to the next in Diablo 4, we do think Blizzard is on the right track with this one, and we are happy to not have to hunt for all the Altars of Lilith again! If anything changes, we will endeavor to update this article faster than Blizzard can hotfix a Diablo 4 glitch!
